Why you should blog on Active Rain even if your customers don’t read blogs.

I was talking to a real estate professional at a networking event tonight. As I always do when I talk to someone in the real estate or mortgage industries, I asked if she blogged on Active Rain. She explained that she logs into her AR account almost daily, but hasn’t written a blog post because:
- She doesn’t have time to maintain a blog. She is seriously committed to excellence so when she does something she does it right. Knowing right now that she will not be able to maintain a blog, she would rather not start.
- Her clients don’t subscribe to blogs. She is absolutely right – her (clearly defined) target market is generally not tech-savvy and not likely to subscribe to blogs.
My response?
She can save time by outsourcing some of her blog tasks. Someone can work with her to identify blog topics or even ghost write draft blog posts that she can review and edit. While some people blog daily, she really only needs to post something once a week to keep her blog fresh.
Even if her clients don’t subscribe to blogs, they do use search engines to find information. Since search engines love Active Rain, her target market will find and read her blog posts – even if they have no idea they are reading a blog.
In tomorrow’s blog post, I’ll provide a few quick tips for using Active Rain to reach “non-techie” audiences.
